Juma Mosque

The official date of the mosque's construction is the end of the 18th century. However, research reveals to us an older date – the 10th century. It's just that the mosque was rebuilt at a later time with money donated by Khan Abdurakhman Mehtar, who was in power at that time.

The Juma mosque in Khiva is unique in its structure, it does not have portals, domes, galleries and an inner courtyard. The mosque is accessible from three sides. The ceiling of the great hall is supported by 213 wooden columns. These columns were created in the XI-XV centuries and brought here from other ancient buildings. The columns captivate with their amazing ornamental carvings.

There are small openings in the ceiling for light and ventilation. The southern wall has stalactite niches, and on the right there is a marble plaque indicating profits and estates. Of particular interest are the doors and columns, with handmade carvings.
