Tips and cautions
Learn about important recommendations and warnings that will help you avoid common mistakes and make your trip to Uzbekistan safe and enjoyable.
For a comfortable and safe stay in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, all foreign citizens are advised to familiarize themselves with the current rules and specifics governing the order of stay and movement in the country.
Foreign citizens arriving in Uzbekistan must have a valid passport and visa with them (if it is provided for by agreements between the countries). Upon check-in at the hotel, the tourist's data is automatically transferred to the migration registration system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which eliminates the need for self-registration. If the tourist lives in the private sector, the landlord is required to register the guest through the Emehmon electronic portal.uz within three days of arrival. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in administrative liability.
It is recommended to always have a copy of your passport or a digital version of the document with you, and keep the original in a safe place, for example, in a hotel safe. If necessary, law enforcement officers can request an identity verification document.
Travel around the country is possible by all major modes of transport: air, rail and road. It is recommended to use only the services of official transport companies and trusted travel operators. The use of private unlicensed transport is undesirable, as it may involve violations of safety regulations or inflated fares.
Photography is generally allowed in Uzbekistan, but it must be borne in mind that photographing military installations, police stations, strategic buildings, airports and border areas is strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule may be considered an administrative offense. When photographing people, it is advisable to ask for permission first, especially in rural areas.
Medical care in the country is provided in both public and private institutions. No mandatory vaccinations are required to enter Uzbekistan, but it is recommended to have standard medical insurance valid for the duration of your stay. It should also be remembered that the import and export of medicines containing potent or psychotropic substances is possible only if there are supporting medical documents. Violation of these requirements may result in serious administrative or criminal liability.
The use and distribution of narcotic drugs in Uzbekistan is strictly prohibited and punishable by law. Drinking alcoholic beverages is allowed only in specially designated places — cafes, restaurants and hotels. Alcohol consumption in public places, on the streets and in parks is not allowed.
It should be borne in mind that customs control in Uzbekistan is quite strict. Upon entry, it is necessary to declare the currency and valuables if their value exceeds the established limit. The import of weapons, explosives, pornographic materials and printed materials that contradict the laws and social principles of the country is prohibited.
For personal safety, tourists are advised to be careful when storing money and documents, not to leave valuables unattended and avoid large crowds in the evening. At the same time, the crime rate in the tourist areas of Uzbekistan remains low, and the police and security services pay special attention to the protection of foreign guests.
Travel insurance, which includes medical care and transportation costs in case of an emergency, is a prerequisite for some tours and is highly recommended to all visitors.
A visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan is considered safe and comfortable if the above rules are followed. Tourists who show respect for local laws and established procedures can count on the friendly attitude of the local population and government officials, as well as a peaceful and pleasant stay in the country.
