The City Wall of Dican-Kala
Dichan-Kala is the outer fortress wall of the city of Khiva, built in 1842 under the rule of Khan Alla-Kuli. It surrounded the city from the outside, protecting it from nomadic attacks and acting as the second defensive ring after the inner wall of Ichan-Kala.
The wall was built of baked and mud bricks, had a height of up to 8 meters and a length of about 6 kilometers. There were towers and gates around the perimeter, through which passed the caravan roads connecting Khiva with other cities.
Today, only isolated sections of the wall have been preserved, but they still give the impression of the grandeur of the ancient fortress city. Dichan-Kala recalls the former power of the Khanate of Khiva and is an important part of the historical appearance of the city.
