The Havak Well
The Kheyvak well is one of the most ancient and revered places in Khiva, from which, according to legend, the history of the city began. It is believed that the well was dug by Sim himself, the son of the prophet Noah, and it was from his exclamation "Hey wah!" ("How wonderful!") that the name of the city of Khiva was derived.
The well is lined with baked bricks and still contains clean water, which locals consider holy. This place has become a symbol of the origin of life in the Khiva oasis and one of the iconic attractions of the Ichan-Kala complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
