Madrasah of Muhammad Rahim Khan II

The Muhammad Rahim Khan II Madrasah is one of the largest and most beautiful educational institutions in Khiva, built in 1876 under Khan Muhammad Rahim II (poet Feruz). The building is located next to Kunya Ark and impresses with its grandeur, elegance of forms and rich decor.

The madrasah consists of two floors, a large portal and an inner courtyard surrounded by dozens of educational cells — hujras. Students studied here not only religious, but also secular sciences: mathematics, geography, philosophy.

The facade is decorated with glazed tiles and oriental-style patterns, and the spirit of science and enlightenment is still felt inside. Today, the madrasah is part of the Ichan-Kala ensemble, which is under UNESCO protection, and is one of the pearls of Khiva architecture.
