Graveyard of Ships
Before the Aral disaster, there was a port in the Aral Sea region that welcomed dozens of ships and ships, and now this place has turned into a real desert, with saxaul trees growing everywhere. At the bottom of the dried-up Aral Sea, the rusty remains of ships and boats that once floated on the celestial-colored water surface have been standing in the sun for many years. And the city of Muinak, located on the shores of the Aral Sea and once famous for its fish cannery, has now turned into a "graveyard of ships" - an empty sandy place strewn with rusty monuments, which now only remind locals of the once blue and raging sea.
Nevertheless, many tourists come to such a dry and tragic place, interested in the fate of the Aral Sea, photographers and filmmakers who shoot videos and photographs. They look especially beautiful against the background of the snow-white salty desert.
In fact, contrary to many opinions, the Aral Sea still exists. Of course, not in its original size, but nevertheless, it still lives and pleases us with its beauty. And despite the huge decrease in water, currently the Western Aral Sea, located on the territory of Uzbekistan, is as much as 4 times the size of the famous Dead Sea in Israel, and only positive reviews among tourists are about the healing properties of its salty waters.
There is another interesting place on the shore of the Aral Sea – this is a small yurt camp "Aral", consisting of 8 traditional Karakalpak yurts, which can accommodate up to 60 tourists. In the coastal camp, you can have a great rest after a long journey, admire the picturesque nature, the water surface and the especially beautiful evening sunset. Such an unusual and remote camp is very popular among tourists and those who like to relax in nature, breathe the sea air and listen to the sound of the surf.
The road from the nearest large city of Nukus to the sea will be difficult – 150 km mainly through the newly formed Aralkum desert, the former seabed. But it's definitely worth it, a real adventure with a visit to the "dead city" and an unforgettable overnight stay in a coastal yurt will be remembered for incredible extreme sensations for a long time, and swimming in the salty sea will have a beneficial effect on your body, giving beauty and youth for many more months.
