Mausoleum of Buyan Kuli Khan

The mausoleum of Buyan-Kuli Khan is an ancient medieval tomb of the khan of the Chagatai Khanate of Buyan-Kuli, It was built on the outskirts of Bukhara in 1358.

The mausoleum of Buyan-Kuli Khan is located near the ancient mausoleum of the XIV century Sayfiddin Bokharzi, in the Faysakhan district, in the east of the city of Bukhara. One of Sayfiddin Bokharzi's students was the Chagatai Khan Buyan-kuli (d. 1358), the grandson of the famous Duva Khan (d. 1307). In 1346, Amir Kazagan seized power in the western part of the Mongolian Chagatai ulus, to which Bukhara belonged.

He formally elevated Buyan-Kuli Khan to the throne and ruled on his behalf. When power passed to Kazagan's son Amir Abd-Allah, he executed Buyan-kuli Khan. One of the reasons for this is the desire of Abd-Allah to get the wife of Buyan-Kuli Khan. The deceased Khan was buried next to the memorial of his teacher Sheikh Boharzi. A small mausoleum was erected here.

The medieval architectural monument is a rectangular building on a high pedestal with two rooms, one of which houses the tombstone of Khan Buyan-Kuli from Majolica. The mausoleum is framed by four decorative columns. A peshtak portal is located separately from the building, which is decorated with beautiful images with irrigated terracotta.

The facade of the mausoleum is rich in decorative ornaments and delicate white, blue, purple and blue colors – it is decorated with drawings of plants, letters and geometric shapes. The architecture of the mausoleum of Buyan-Kuli Khan is characterized by elegance and sophistication.

The mausoleum was completely renovated in 1926.
