Bolo House Complex

The Bolo House complex is the only preserved monument on Registan Square. It is located opposite the Arch – Emir fortress. The complex consists of a pond, a Friday mosque and a minaret. The oldest part of the complex is a pond (House), which is called Bolo-House, which means ("children's pond"). It is one of the few preserved in Bukhara. Before the advent of Soviet power, there were many of them in Bukhara. They were a source of water for the population.

The Bolo House mosque was built in 1712 by order of the wife of the ruler of Bukhara. Another version says that Emir Shahmurad (1785-1800) built it for public prayers because he liked to be closer to his people. Despite the fact that there was a decline in culture and economy in the Bukhara Khanate at that time, nevertheless, this one of the most beautiful mosques in Bukhara was built.

This mosque is from the 18th century, with a memorable magnificent painted multi-columned ivan, which is reflected along with the minaret in the waters of the house. The wooden ceiling of the ivan (a traditional covered canopy), which is supported by elegant columns, is richly decorated with carvings and decorated with floral and geometric ornaments. The rulers of the city often prayed there.
