Sergei Yesenin Museum

The history of the Sergei Yesenin Museum in Tashkent
In the late 70s of the XX century, the idea came to create a Public Museum in Tashkent dedicated to the poet's life and work, and only then (as mentioned above - in 1981) the State Literary Museum of Sergei Yesenin was opened.

The exhibition is located in a house that was built at the end of the 19th century. For more than 100 years there was a children's library.

The building has already undergone restoration, and it was reopened to the public in the late 90s. Numerous collections were also replenished by donating exhibits to the museum directly from Yesenin's friends and family.

The materials of the exhibition are so unique that the museum ranks second among similar institutions, second only to the collection of exhibits in the poet's small homeland — in the Ryazan region.

At the entrance to the building there is a small lobby with mirrors, hangers for outerwear and a large portrait of Sergei Yesenin. A tour guide will meet you there and take you through the museum, telling you interesting facts about the poet's life, his visit to Tashkent and his work.

The museum has four halls. Most of the museum's items are related to Yesenin's arrival in Uzbekistan in 1921. A separate room has been set aside for them, here you can see the documented memories of contemporaries who witnessed this event, preserved photographs and household items. The whole atmosphere of the hall is atmospheric — you can easily be transported back to the poet's life.

The next room is dedicated to the creative heritage: translations of the collected works of Yesenin in the languages of the peoples of Central Asia are kept there. Another room houses objects related to the mysterious death of the poet, and various editions of his poems. The exhibition also includes authentic autographs of the poet, records on which his voice is recorded. By the way, during the tour, these records are played to visitors so that they can listen to Sergei Yesenin's public performance. The poet's personal belongings are of great value: a suitcase, a candlestick, a book of poems and letters.

Special attention is paid to the life of the poet's daughter, Tatiana. As you know, she lived in Uzbekistan for a long time, she was buried in one of the cemeteries in Tashkent.

The museum has a lecture hall, which often hosts readings of not only Yesenin's poems, but also modern poets, as well as various exhibitions, literary and musical evenings. The museum even publishes its own information publication, Yesenin's World. In it, admirers of Sergei Yesenin's work publish interesting materials and research about the great poet and literary analyses of his works.
