Odin Mosque and Madrasah
The Odin Mosque and Madrasah is an outstanding architectural and spiritual monument of the city of Karshi, erected in the 14th century by order of the great Amir Timur. The complex was built in honor of his wife Odina Begim, whose name became a symbol of loyalty, wisdom and feminine nobility.
The mosque building is a unique example of Timurid architecture.: it combines monumentality and grace, and the harmonious proportions emphasize the rigor and grandeur of the era. The facade is decorated with traditional ornaments of burnt bricks and azure-colored tiles. A majestic dome rises above the main hall, inside which the soft echo of prayers sounds, creating a special atmosphere of peace and reverence.
Next to the mosque is a madrasa, an Islamic school where theology, literature, astronomy and philosophy have been taught for centuries. Future imams and Sufi mentors studied here, and sacred texts were copied.
After the loss of religious functions during the Soviet period, the building was turned into a museum of the history and culture of Karshi, where today you can see archaeological finds, ancient manuscripts, household items and crafts of the region. Despite the restorations, the monument has preserved the authentic atmosphere of the XIV–XV centuries and is considered one of the spiritual pearls of Southern Uzbekistan.
