Kattakurgan reservoir
Kattakurgan reservoir is one of the largest artificial reservoirs in the Samarkand region, located near the city of the same name on the Zeravshan River. This water giant not only provides vital irrigation to the agricultural lands of the region, but also serves as a favorite vacation spot for residents and visitors of the region.
The construction of the reservoir began in the middle of the 20th century as part of a program to improve irrigation and water supply in the Zeravshan Valley. Its area exceeds 52 square kilometers, and the volume reaches 870 million cubic meters of water. Due to this, the reservoir has become one of the key sources of water for the fields of Samarkand, Jizzakh and neighboring areas.
The shores of the reservoir are surrounded by picturesque plains and low hills. Here you can meet fishermen, shepherds and vacationers, and in the morning there are rows of migratory birds making a stop on the migration route. The water reflects the bright sky and creates a feeling of boundless vastness.
In addition to its economic importance, the Kattakurgan reservoir has gradually become a tourist destination. Lovers of nature, fishing and photography come here in spring and summer. Locals arrange picnics on the shores, and in the surroundings you can see beautiful sunsets over the surface of the water.
This place combines human labor and natural beauty — an example of how engineering can transform the landscape and give life to entire regions.
