Sangardak waterfall
Sangardak waterfall is one of the best attractions of Surkhandarya, for which tourists travel hundreds of kilometers from Termez or Baysun. An amazing waterfall flows directly from many channels in a sheer cliff, and hundreds of thin streams fall down onto moss-covered rocks. There are two main waterfalls and several separate ones, which may dry up by autumn. In spring and summer, the flow is very powerful, and the air is saturated with moisture. Therefore, even on a hot summer day, it will be fresh and cool at the Sangardak waterfall.
The way to the waterfall from Baysun is 140 km, and from Termez – 190 km. The last kilometers of the road to the waterfall go through the beautiful gorge of the Sangardakdarya river of the same name, in the foothills of the high Hissar mountains. The waterfall itself is located at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level, and the cliff above it rises 300-400 meters. The name "Sangardak" is of Tajik origin, although the exact meaning is unknown, but "sang" translates as stone or rock, and "ardak" - honor.
Arriving at the waterfall, tourists will see a small maze of stairs that lead to viewing platforms on different parts of the waterfall. It is worth noting that if you admire the falling water for a long time, you can get soaked to the skin. Local sweets, fermented dairy products and fruits are sold at the entrance below, and nearby there are gazebos where visitors relax after a long journey.
Anyone who goes to explore Termez, Baysun or the entire Surkhandarya region should pay attention to the Sangardak waterfall, as there is no such natural attraction in Uzbekistan anymore. Here, travelers can relax in the shade of majestic cliffs and refresh themselves under the jets of water, simultaneously soothing their souls to the measured sounds of sonorous streams.
