Monument to Islam Karimov
A monument to the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Abduganievich Karimov, has been erected in the center of Samarkand, near Registan Square. The monument was opened in 2017 and has become a symbol of the grateful memory of the people of the first leader of independent Uzbekistan.
The bronze statue depicts Islam Karimov in full—length, majestic, restrained and solemn. He seems to be addressing people, looking forward with confidence and dignity, which symbolizes peace, stability and the path that the country has taken.
The monument is set on a high granite pedestal, surrounded by a neat square with greenery, lanterns and places to relax. This is one of the most visited and respected places in Samarkand, where residents and guests of the city come to honor the memory of the first president, who made a huge contribution to the formation of an independent state.
