Kattakurgan Museum of Local Lore

The Kattakurgan Museum of Local Lore is one of the main cultural centers of the Samarkand region, reflecting the rich history and identity of the region. Located in the heart of the city, the museum serves as a keeper of centuries-old heritage, from ancient times to the present.

The institution was founded in the middle of the 20th century, when an active study of the archaeological sites of the Zeravshan River Valley began. Initially, the museum was a small exhibition, but over time its collections were replenished with archaeological finds, household items, ancient books and documents related to the history of Kattakurgan.

Today, the museum's exposition is divided into several thematic halls:

The Archaeological Hall features ancient artifacts, ceramics, coins, and jewelry found in the vicinity of the city.

The ethnographic section tells about the traditions and crafts of the inhabitants of the region — weaving, pottery, wood carving, national clothes.

The Soviet-era section contains materials on the development of industry, education, and culture in the 20th century.

The Independence Hall reflects the modern achievements of Uzbekistan and the path of Kattakurgan in modern times.

The museum building itself is of architectural value — the facade is decorated with elements of traditional Uzbek style, and the interior halls are decorated in bright colors, creating an atmosphere of respect and peace.

Visitors note that the museum not only preserves the history, but also helps to feel the spirit of the city: its formation, heroism, hard work and the desire for development. The excursions conducted by local enthusiastic staff who know every find and every legend are especially interesting.

The museum has become an important educational and tourist destination — schoolchildren, researchers and travelers come here to gain a deeper understanding of how the Samarkand region lives outside the capital.
