Tashkent International Airport named after Islam Karimov
Tashkent Islam Karimov International Airport (Uzbek Islom Karimov nomidagi "Toshkent" xalqaro aeroporti / Islom Karimov nomidagi "Toshkent" khalkaro airport; English Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport), also has the unofficial name Tashkent-Yuzhny (Uzbek Toshkent-Janubiy / Toshkent-Janubiy; English Tashkent Southern) is the largest airport in Uzbekistan, located in the city of Tashkent. It is the main hub for the national airline Uzbekistan Airways (Uzbekistan Airways). It is located inside the territory of the city of Tashkent, in the Sergeli district, five kilometers southeast of the city center. It is one of the oldest airports in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
In January 2017, it was renamed in honor of the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov.
One of the two (along with the Vostochny Business Aviation airport under construction), as well as Tashkent's main airport. It has 10 boarding gates. It is one of the largest airports in Central Asia and the third largest in terms of passenger traffic after Kazakhstan's Alma Ata and Astana airports in the Central Asian region. The annual passenger traffic of Tashkent airport is more than eight million people. As of the end of 2024, it ranks 8th among the busiest airports in the former Soviet Union.
Tashkent International Airport is the largest aviation enterprise in Central Asia, which includes numerous services providing ground handling of passengers, cargo and aircraft at the international level.
It includes two runways— a southern and a northern one, corresponding to the second category of ICAO and allowing to receive all types of aircraft, an apron with a total area of 100 hectares with 110 parking lots for long-range and medium-range mainline aircraft.
Tashkent International Airport occupies a convenient geographical location, as it is located at the intersection of air routes going from the CIS countries and Europe to Southeast, South and East Asia and back, as well as at the intersection of routes between Europe and Asia. The airport is connected by air with many major cities of the world, as well as with almost all regional centers of Uzbekistan. The airport has been reconstructed and expanded several times, and currently has two passenger terminals.
There are four duty-free shops at the airport. In addition to plastic cards, cash is accepted for payment: Uzbek soums, US dollars, euros and pounds sterling. Since 2024, the hotel has been operating for passengers with 24 seats.
