Samarkand Airport

Samarkand International Airport is the largest air hub in Uzbekistan, and it ranks second in terms of traffic after the capital's Islam Karimov Airport. Its annual passenger traffic reaches 500 million people. Samarkand's air harbor serves the entire region, so special attention is being paid to its development — in 2004, it was awarded the title of the best in the CIS.

In 2009, the Samarkand airport underwent major reconstruction, during which a new airport complex and a control room were built, the most modern equipment was installed, and the runway was renovated. All these innovations have allowed not only to increase the capacity of Uzbekistan's most important air hub, but also to expand its functionality — now Samarkand Airport can accommodate all types of aircraft and meets international standards.

In March 2022, a new modern terminal and runway were opened, which increased the number of scheduled flights to 120 per week. It is planned that in the coming years the route network will be expanded, with direct flights to Sharjah, Krasnoyarsk and Europe.
