Jinjongbobo Mausoleum

The history of the Jinjongbobo Mausoleum dates back to the middle of the 17th century. It was built at the city cemetery near the Amu Darya. The river flooded this area every year, as a result, by 1826 the mausoleum had fallen into absolute disrepair.

Financial assistance from Khan Olokulikhan of Khiva helped to restore the cult site. At the same time, a madrasa began to operate at the mausoleum. The revolution of 1917 had its own way. Since 1927, the landmark building has been used as a prison.

Since 1948, this religious site has received the status of a historical monument, which was completely renovated only in 2005. The brick building has a purely oriental appearance. Arched doorways decorated with blue ceramic tiles.

The ceiling of the domes inside the mosque is covered with quotations and sayings from the surahs of the Quran. Ancient wooden doors covered with carved patterns attract special attention. Today, the mausoleum and the minaret are a place of pilgrimage for Muslims.
