Farkhad market

The Farkhad market appeared on the map of Tashkent in 1971. A shopping area was allocated for its operation in the area of busy highways — Lutfi and Farkhad streets. The place almost immediately became popular with the townspeople.

In 2008, the Farhad market, or as it is also called the bazaar, underwent reconstruction. The facade has changed, and the pavilions have become more modern. The retail space has acquired small fountains, which are so indispensable in the heat. The counters were tiled, and paving stones were placed on the paths between the rows. The process of receiving rent for retail outlets has also been computerized. The overall changes affected an area of 4 hectares.

The sanitary condition of the Farkhad bazaar in Tashkent has also improved. Flea markets selling used items have almost disappeared into oblivion. And those who still attempt to sell used goods are strongly advised by the police to go home.

In 2018, the bazaar was featured in Uzbek news reports. The cause was a fire that occurred in one of the car shops. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the market was not permanently paralyzed.
